Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Civil Engineering Intern.

DHA is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for our 2024 Summer Internship Program (with the opportunity to extend through the fall semester)! The intern will support our Civil Engineering Department in our Silver Spring, Maryland office. Candidate will be working with experienced engineers on challenging and exciting site-civil design land development projects (both public and private) in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This office is focused on providing services in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, and the District of Columbia, reaching into Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County. Candidate should be working towards a Civil Engineering degree and have an interest in the land development discipline. This will be a paid, full-time, on-site role for the 2024 summer internship. A positive internship experience may lead to full-time employment after graduation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design work for all aspects of engineering projects including layout, grading, earthwork, storm drain, septic, sanitary sewer, water, storm water management, and erosion/sediment control;
  • Participate in field investigations to determine existing conditions;
  • Partake in the process of permitting and completion of as-constructed/as-built drawings; and
  • Assist with drafting technical specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program;
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors and design team members;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team oriented environment;
  • Sound time management and task prioritization skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; and
  • Familiarity with using CAD and Civil 3D software to complete engineering designs.

Working Conditions:  

Work is performed within a general office environment 100% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
