Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered, a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Transportation Director.

DHA is seeking a licensed professional civil engineer to provide overall leadership and management to all types of transportation projects with the goal to continue and grow the company’s transportation practice. The Transportation Director is to work strategically and in partnership with cross department teams to develop, implement and maintain a robust transportation practice. The Director must have demonstrable experience in the management and technical oversight of transportation infrastructure projects to include design and construction management of highway, roadways, bridge decks, street and pedestrian projects.  


Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strategic plan which identifies short and long-term transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with private developers, consulting engineering firms, local, state and federal government agencies.
  • Lead the proposal preparation of transportation infrastructure pursuits.
  • Provide management oversight to design as well as program and construction management transportation projects.
  • Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on transportation related projects.

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering;
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in DC, MD and/or VA;
  • Minimum of 25 years of experience in engineering planning, design and PM/CM of transportation projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the practices and principles of municipal government, Federal Highway and Department of Transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with local governments and a commitment to innovation transportation policies and programs.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong decision making, research, problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and creative skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer use and research skills and demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.

Working Conditions

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work will periodically require attendance at meetings outside of normal business hours such as in the evenings or on weekends. Telework opportunities available upon supervisor approval.


Work Environment:  Office setting; however, Director may have to visit construction sites to provide oversight to the delivery of PM or CM services.
