Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Senior Construction Inspector.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance for roadway paving and or alley rehabilitation construction projects, under the direction of a Construction Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Inspect and monitor assigned field work activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Coordinate work and inspections with contractor's representative, DDOT personnel and other stakeholders as identified
  • Check lines, grades, dimension and elevations using standard surveying and field measuring equipment
  • Advise contractor of non-conforming work or other violations of the contract requirements
  • Prepare and review daily inspector reports for preparation of entries into project diaries
  • Document materials in the Materials Notebook as well as other test reports for materials
  • Test and/or sample materials as required, coordinate with Materials Division and send samples to client or other testing laboratories as needed
  • Assist in contractor's monthly evaluations

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full-time experience as a construction inspector on highway, roadway, or alley construction
  • Preferred certifications: asphalt field, concrete field, nuclear gauge, work zone safety and traffic control, and OSHA 10-hour
  • Experience inspecting paving construction, including concrete and asphalt 
  • Experience monitoring the setup of work zones and traffic control 

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 75% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. The site is DC Water. Field work is required the remaining 25% of the time where work may be conducted outside in one or more of the following conditions: heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, arid. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
