Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Structural Inspector.


  • Achieve and maintain full familiarity with contract plans, specifications, contractors’ schedules and plans, applicable safety regulations, and current shop and working drawings relative to assigned contract duties, to be knowledgeable about the contractors’ obligations/plans/schedule;
  • Observe and report on construction work planning/coordination, quantity assessment, work plan adherence, schedule monitoring, and field issue resolution for the structural infrastructure construction work;
  • Observe and accurately report on related daily activities at the construction site to determine adherence to contract documents and regulatory agency provisions;
  • Observe and inspect construction work to ensure technical and physical security integrity;
  • Observe work operations for compliance with applicable safety regulations, recognize unsafe practices, and, where appropriate, request their correction by the contractors’ on-site representative;
  • Document OE/AOE assigned construction activities on electronic and/or hardcopy reports (as determined by the Task Manager), as instructed by the SAPM and record on Daily Inspection Reports including equipment, quantities of materials, as noted in the schedule of values, and change order work under respective Pending Change Order (PCO) numbers;
  • Monitor and report on on-site material testing (as required);
  • Monitor and report contractors’ actual progress against scheduled progress and include with the Daily Inspection Reports;
  • Monitor and document site-based construction coordination meetings with the client’s Task Manager, stakeholders, and contractor;
  • Support other required record keeping of contractors’ job-site equipment and manpower, as necessary;
  • Conduct Substantial Completion Inspections and Final Acceptance Inspections;
  • Prepare punch-lists or worklists in areas of assigned responsibility before Substantial Completion Inspections and monitor and record correction of construction deficiencies;
  • Assist with contract close-out and the acquisition of contractor-prepared technical documents for the client’s project record documents, including as-built plans, drawings, and schematics; and
  • Perform duties as assigned by the OE and/or the client’s Task Manager to ensure successful completion of the Station Entrance Canopies – Phase IV project.


  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an emphasis on structures or a related field;
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the construction of major transit projects or similar infrastructure is required;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the installation, inspection, and testing protocol knowledge of structural systems or related major transit infrastructure and corresponding experience in inspection of major transit systems facilities, and determination of material requirements for conformance with plans and specifications is required;
  • Demonstrated experience with concrete and steel structures;
  • Knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards;
  • Ability to read and comprehend contract documents, including complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings;
  • Ability to read and comprehend contract documents, including complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings;
  • Ability to understand construction testing disciplines, such as welding, non-destructive testing, and concrete, steel and all other applicable building materials sampling and testing protocols;
  • Ability to coordinate with contractors’ staff and communicate effectively with all parties using good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to identify and address safety, schedule, performance, and quality concerns;
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training;
  • Ability to successfully complete the OSHA Confined Space Training;
  • Knowledge of and experience using CADD software (MicroStation/Inroads and AutCAD/Civil 3D);
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and tools; and
  • Certification in general building construction, inspection, or code enforcement from the American Construction Inspector’s Association or other similar association or regulatory governmental organization or equivalent is preferred.
