Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Construction Inspector.


  • Understand and comply with the current Manual for Safety Roadway Protection Handbook (MSRPH);
  • Read construction documents to understand goals and objectives relative to assigned project work sites;
  • Inspect construction work, primarily electrical (e.g., traction power sub-stations and AC switch gear rooms) but also some civil, structural, mechanical systems, architectural, track work;
  • Survey project sites to establish conditions at a given work site before initiation of work and the development of biddable solicitation packages;
  • Conduct pre-construction site surveys to verify conditions of a given project site with contractors before work begins;
  • Review and verify site conditions throughout the construction phase;
  • Be attentive and vigilant while project site work is being performed by contractors and third parties;
  • Execute client's project inspection checklist;
  • Complete checklists to verify contractor's work and/or non-compliance;
  • Coordinate with designated client and contractors to bring components identified as non-compliant into compliance;
  • Conduct warranty checks when issues arise; accompany contractors to review warranty work and complete punch lists, checklists, or observations relative to assigned project worksites;
  • Coordinate direction of contractor's work with client;
  • Execute communication requirements with project site contractors and other third-parties;
  • Stop contractor work that violates the client's technical and/or safety standards/procedures; and
  • Provide progress updates at bi-monthly and/or weekly meetings relative to the current work phase of each assigned project.


  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years demonstrable experience in construction inspections and/or electrical inspections; experience as a journeyman electrical is preferred;
  • Experience with major (non-interrupted) systems, heavy industry, large-scale electrical, and/or utility construction, in a rapid transit field or related area; residential, maintenance, or light commercial experience are not acceptable qualifications;
  • Direct working experience with Traction Power, AC switch gear, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems and/or utilities is required;
  • Ability to obtain OSHA-10 General Industry certification;
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 quality standards and its application to planning, design, and construction; and
  • Access to reliable transportation to, from, and between project sites throughout the clients's system 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

Working Conditions 

Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Field work may be required 95% of the time where work may be conducted outside in one or more of the following conditions: heat or cold, wet or humid, and dry or arid. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
