Delon Hampton & Associates, Chartered a minority-owned, professional consulting engineering services firm headquartered in Washington, DC, currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and energetic, Construction Field Inspector.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect all phases of construction and testing relative to their work assignment. Typical inspection will include civil, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, life safety, vertical transportation, temporary works, testing, turnover, and integration of systems, and related elements;
  • Read construction documents (i.e., drawing and specifications) to understand goals and objectives relative to assigned project work sites;
  • Inspect construction work to ensure they comply with design drawings;
  • Monitor Contractor's Quality Control System (CQCS) and verify that the installation material and equipment conform with the client's standards;
  • Record and report daily construction activity as outlined in "Guidelines for Construction Inspection" and as instructed by supervisor;
  • Conduct field surveys to detect potential problems and to ensure field changes are properly channeled and documents;
  • Inform Construction Inspector Facilitator or Supervisor, Field Projects of non-compliance with contract provisions;
  • Monitor corrective action, investigate problems, and initiate actions for their resolution to minimize work disruptions;
  • Verify receipt of contractor's material shipments and is able to reject defective or substandard material;
  • Observe installation and testing for compliance with applicable safety regulations;
  • Ensure the contractor is working with approved shop drawings and up-to-date contract drawings;
  • Verify and document as-built conditions, particularly schematics;
  • Survey project sites to establish conditions at a given work site before initiation of work and the development of biddable solicitation packages;
  • Conduct pre-construction site surveys to verify conditions of a given project site with contractors before work begins;
  • Review and verify site conditions throughout the construction phase;
  • Maintain quality control in accordance with established guidelines relating to assigned portion of the project;
  • Perform physical measurements and filed testing which may involve the use of complex electronic or mechanical devices for non-destructive testing;
  • Collect and compile electronic or hardcopy data to document the quality of work;
  • Assist in the preparation of material samples, as required for laboratory testing and approval;
  • Complete checklists to verify contractor's work and/or non-compliance;
  • Provide progress updates at bi-monthly and/or weekly meetings to the client;
  • Work various shifts and schedules as may be assigned; and
  • Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of an associate's degree in a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years demonstrable experience in construction inspections;
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a related field, of which two (2) years shall be in the transportation industry;
  • Ability to read construction documents (i.e., drawings and specifications) to understand goals and objectives relative to assigned project work sites;
  • Direct working experience with Tunnel Ventilation Projects;
  • Ability to obtain OSHA-10 construction certification;
  • Must be able to successfully complete client's Railway Worker Protection (RWP) Certification class;
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 quality standards and its application to planning, design, and construction; and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Procore.
