Delon Hampton & Associates is looking for a Civil Engineer with construction experience for a major water and wastewater design-build project.

The engineer will review civil engineering designs for conformance with specifications, prepare technical presentations, review contractor submittals, and manage design document control for a design-build project. The engineer will work under the direction of a senior engineer as part of a design team with opportunities for both design and construction management exposure. Activities may include but are not limited to: engineering analysis, developing alternatives, calculations, report writing, data analysis, data collection, document review and tracking, and other activities associated with large-scale construction projects. This position will serve as a member of the design team beginning the multi-year construction phase of a major project. 

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and understand contract documents (project drawings, specifications, memos, and reports)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with organizational, communication, and writing skills. 
  • Design review coordination and construction document processing.
  • Assist in developing work plans and schedules to complete assigned work in a timely manner.
  • May include hydraulic design, drawing production in AutoCAD to a conceptual level prior to final drafting by the CADD department, and technical PowerPoint presentations.
  • Construction management responsibilities including oversight, RFI review and processing, scheduling, cost control, invoice review for the general contractor and design build firms.
  • Coordinate with various project managers to set deadlines, priorities, and negotiate competing needs for resources.
  • Oversee and provide quality control for documents produced, including accuracy, presentation, and conformance to established standards and timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • EIT or PE licensed preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ work experience in civil engineering with preference for wastewater and hydraulic design or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Experience preferably in underground or heavy civil construction and engineering. 
  • Green infrastructure or stormwater management experience preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 75% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. The site is DC Water. Field work is required the remaining 25% of the time where work may be conducted outside in one or more of the following conditions: heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, arid. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
